Well let's start with the basics:

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. CSS is used by modern browsers to apply complex styles to text, layout, and position of almost any element that makes up a web page. CSS is very powerful and has changed the way the web pages are designed. To see CSS applied in real world examples, take a look at the CSS Zen Garden. The CSS Zen Garden is a website that web designers submit a CSS based design to, and that design is applied to the content of the CSS Zen Garden site. It is really a great example of how powerful CSS is. (It should be noted that you should use FireFox to get the full effect of some of the examples of CSS. If you are not using FireFox, then some CSS examples might appear incorrectly, or might not display as intended.)

XHTML is a version of HTML that combines traditional HTML with XML functionality and mark up. (Basicially: cleaner HTML code)


What does all of this really mean?

Simply put: Standards.

The Express Web Systems web sites are standards compliant. Both in HTML (using the XHTML strict HTML specification) as well as the CSS standard set out by W3 or World Wide Web Consortium.

Why are standards important?

Standards are how we (the users of the internet) ensure that the websites that we create appear how we want them to appear on each browser regardless of the browser type, client operating system, etc.

Why are they important for Express Web Systems?

Standards compliance is just a small detail when it comes to website design, often times one that gets over looked. We at Express Web Systems take the time to ensure that our web sites are standards compliant as a way to show our customers (and potential customers) that no detail, however small, will be overlooked. We feel that it is this attention to detail that sets Express Web Systems appart from the rest.
